Ceramic crowns and bridges

In the case of major caries, teeth with large fractures, devitalized teeth (root care with loss of vitality = more fragile tooth), a ceramic cap is recommended.

With the advent of new technology and very resistant aesthetic materials such as zirconium, it is possible to avoid using underlying metal reinforcements, both for single teeth and for small bridges (replacement of one or two missing teeth).

The absence of metal allows those inevitable imperfections (grey border) that were found with earlier metal and ceramic crowns to be avoided. Ceramic is a biocompatible, non-allergenic material and this can be an advantage for patients with allergies.

The high transparency of these materials allows light to penetrate as with natural teeth, giving the product an incomparable aesthetic while maintaining excellent strength. The application of one or more ceramic crowns, in addition to protecting and strengthening the tooth, allows simultaneous correction of imperfections, such as severe discolouration that can not be corrected with simple whitening, or slight correction of position and shape (diastemas).

In the anterior section, if the teeth are not damaged but need only minor corrections, fitting simple ceramic veneers that require less invasive tooth preparation can be considered.
